About
She Won is run by a team of volunteers who care deeply about providing safe and fair opportunities for female athletes.
Methodology
Every submission to She Won is carefully reviewed by our team of volunteers. We aim to find and cite official sources for each event. Some sports organizations maintain comprehensive archives, while others have little to no records. This can lead to certain sports, like disc golf, appearing overrepresented in our database.
When official sources are unavailable, we verify results through independent research. This may involve speaking directly with affected athletes or their families and reviewing event footage when available.
We also gather information about the male athlete who participated in the women’s event, verifying their sex through reliable sources. In some cases, it’s straightforward—such as when male athletes publicly share photos of themselves with women’s trophies. In others, we rely on a combination of primary and secondary sources to confirm the information.
Additionally, we collect basic details about the displaced female athletes, such as their team or country representation. Whenever possible, we provide links to relevant news coverage, though media reporting on this issue is often limited.
Please note: On the whole, we are greatly understating the number of cases where female athletes are displaced by men. We receive hundreds of submissions that we do not post because we cannot verify them. Many more cases are simply unreported.
